National Hispanic American Heritage Month (NHHM) is a month-long celebration of the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. It is observed from September 15 to October 15 every year.

The theme for NHHM 2023 is "Latinos: Driving Prosperity, Power, and Progress in America." This theme celebrates the significant strides that Hispanics have made in the economic, political, and social growth of the United States

 The first Hispanic Heritage Week was proclaimed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968. It was expanded to a month-long celebration by President Ronald Reagan in 1988.

 The month of September was chosen to start NHHM because it is the anniversary of independence for several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile also celebrate their independence days in September.
